The white supremacist mindset still finds natural, kinky African hair dreadful. And that’s why I’m careful to call them locs not dreadlocks unless I’m in certain company where it would take too much time to educate certain people on the back story. But people who call them locs know the back story.

And this even seems to account for the whole West Indian and Rastafari co-opting of the term “dreadlocks” since both are products of slavery
