Pro-tip: It’s entirely possible to discuss white privilege without dismissing someone’s mental illnesses.

As someone who has dealt with Postpartum Depression and is living with Borderline Personality Disorder, I can tell you from experience it is very hurtful to have someone say that you shouldn’t be depressed because your problems are “small.” What may seem trivial to you may trigger a depressive or suicidal event in someone else. Just because someone has privilege over you in one area, that doesn’t mean you get to dismiss or downplay whatever mental illness they may have. It’s a really horrible and ableist thing to do and should be avoided at all costs.
